“… and you’re proud for them”

To Shannon McMahon, the Boys’ and Girls’ Club of Pittsfield was a “second home” when she was growing up. “It offered me an alternative to hanging out on the streets or falling in with the wrong crowd,” she said. “Between basketball, swimming and the various other activities, I spent countless hours at the club.”

Today, Shannon is still a regular. After obtaining a bachelors degree in Movement Science with a concentration in Sports Medicine - combined with her strong interest in health and fitness - she is now the Aquatics Director at the club, with certification as a Water Safety Instructor.

“When I teach or coach a child and they ‘get it,’ you see how excited and proud they become, and you’re proud for them,” she said.
