Ret. General Francis Roberts

Retired Brigadier General Francis J. Roberts is a 1940 graduate of West Point.

His distinguished military career spanned World War II, the Korean conflict and the Vietnam War, as well as numerous peacetime assignments. He was the eighth superintendent of the New York Military Academy and is a member of the National Boys' and Girls' Clubs Hall of Fame.

“I grew up at 76 Glenwood Avenue and remember dropping by the Boys’ Club after school to play Carroms on those boards. I also recall the swimming pool, which was a wonderful opportunity because a swimming pool was a rarity in those days. After graduating from Pittsfield High School, I went off to West Point Prep in Cornwall, NY, because my English teacher said I'd never get into West Point, which was my goal. I was on the board of trustees of the Boys' Clubs of America for 10 or 12 years and got a club started here in the Pinehurst (NC) area. The Boy’s Club has always been very important to me.”
