“Every memory I have of the Boys’ and Girls’ Club is a positive one.”

“As I child, I attended preschool at the club and as a teen, the club was a safe place to hang out. Every memory I have of the Boys’ and Girls’ Club is a positive one,” said Heather Smegal, a Lead Teacher in the Children’s Center. “Today, my former preschool teacher is now my boss.”

“The club provides children with a fun, safe place to go when school is out. There are many activities that keep children active, as well as teaching them the value of teamwork, respect and good sportsmanship,” she continued. “There are many amazing role models, coaches and teachers at the Boys’ and Girls’ Club who dedicate their lives to the children here.”

Heather said there are many reasons to be proud of the club. “But I am most proud of seeing the young preschoolers grow into young adults. Because the club has such a positive impact on people, these children tend to remain involved throughout adolescence and some right into adulthood. The Boys’ and Girls’ Club is like a family within itself.”
